@bormotello.

Yes , taxing petrol is a bad idea. I abhor it. Pushes up the cost of cargo (including food, commodities) delivered.

What is TMSC, ASML? I’m hopeless with acronyms.

India should drop its neutral position on the Ukraine conflict and support Western sanctions against Russia, Vladimir Zelensky has said in an interview with the Times of India (TOI) newspaper published on Monday.
The comments came following last week’s BRICS Summit in Russia, which was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
India has refused to take sides in the Ukraine conflict and has not condemned Russia. According to Zelensky, New Delhi’s perceived neutral status is in fact a sign of support for Moscow.
“You cannot be neutral because it would mean you are on the side of Russia,” he claimed.
Modi has held meetings with Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent months. He visited Moscow in July for talks with Putin, before traveling to Kiev the following month.

During his meeting with Zelensky, Modi argued that New Delhi is not neutral, but rather that it stands on the side of peace.
At the BRICS Summit in Kazan last week, the Indian prime minister reiterated New Delhi’s stance on the need to resolve the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing India’s willingness to facilitate peace talks.
Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar previously said that while New Delhi has not proposed specific strategies or conditions to end the conflict, it is actively engaging with both Moscow and Kiev.
“If these conversations are helpful, there are not many countries and leaders today that can engage with both Putin and Zelensky; I think we could make a contribution,” the minister stated.
In Monday’s interview, Zelensky admitted that India had a “huge value,” and that Modi could “influence the end of the war.” He insisted, however, that any assertions should be backed by actions.
“Blocking of Russian economy, blocking of cheap energy resource” would hamper Moscow’s ability to continue fighting Ukraine, he argued.
New Delhi has increased trade with Moscow over the past two years in the aftermath of the Western sanctions against Russia. Notably, India has ramped up purchases of discounted Russian oil, taking bilateral trade turnover to over $65 billion last year. The Indian leadership says it is ensuring the country’s energy security.

In his interview with the TOI, Zelensky claimed that Western sanctions against Russia were only “partially” working because countries such as India and China have not joined them.
The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that Western sanctions have failed to weaken the country’s economy, which has shown resilient growth. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) last week boosted its 2024 forecast for Russia, and now expects the country’s GDP to grow 3.6% this year, an increase from its previous projection of 3.2%.

Tightening Russian oil sanctions threatens global economy – Le Monde

Further restrictions by the West could trigger a humanitarian crisis in the poorest countries, according to a report

Attempts to further tighten Western sanctions on Russian oil could undermine the global economy, French newspaper Le Monde wrote on Wednesday.
The report indicated that tightening sanctions on one of the major oil-producing countries could send fertilizer prices soaring and would ultimately lead to higher global food prices.
“The rise in oil prices would disproportionately affect the poorest countries, potentially pushing them into a humanitarian crisis,” US economist Catherine Wolfram was quoted as saying. Such a scenario could discredit the West in the eyes of the Global South and encourage them to strengthen ties with Russia, she suggested.
Meanwhile, the CEO of US-based ClearView Energy Partners, Kevin Book, told Le Monde that sanctions could have worked at a time when most companies specializing in oil transport insurance were located in the West. “This is not the case today,” he emphasized.
Western governments have hit Russia with a barrage of sanctions over the Ukraine conflict. Among other measures, they have introduced a price cap along with an embargo on Russian seaborne oil in an attempt to hurt the country’s economy, while at the same time keeping Russian crude flowing to global markets so as not to trigger price hikes.
The measures were imposed in December 2022, and were followed in February 2023 by similar restrictions on exports of Russian petroleum products. They ban Western companies from providing insurance and other services for shipments of Russian crude, unless the cargo is purchased at or below $60 per barrel, a level below the current market price.
In response, Moscow banned Russian enterprises from complying with the cap and rerouted most of its energy exports to Asia, particularly India and China.

“While some measures have long-term effects, such as the ban on the export of spare parts that hinders the maintenance of military equipment, the opposite is true for oil,” Le Monde wrote, suggesting that Moscow has been successful in sidestepping the restrictions while the price of the country’s flagship Urals crude had mostly remained above the Western price cap.
Reuters calculations based on traders’ data showed that prices of October Urals crude oil were trading above $65 a barrel at Russian Baltic and Black Sea ports. In July, Russian crude traded at around $80 a barrel.
According to a recent report by the independent economic think tank Institute for Energy and Finance Foundation (FIEF), Russia’s energy revenues may reach record levels this year, buoyed by high export oil prices. Income from oil exports jumped by 63% in January-July this year compared to the same period in 2023, totaling 6.4 trillion rubles ($66 billion), the paper said.

Kiev brushes off EU criticisms of Ukrainian media landscape

Brussels has questioned the much-criticized United News tele-marathon in an annual report

The Ukrainian government has “noted” the EU’s concerns about media freedom in the country and intends to address them some time in the future, the Culture and Communications Ministry said on Thursday.
In its annual report on Ukraine’s progress towards EU accession, which the European Commission released on Wednesday, Brussels questioned the operation and public funding of the United News TV tele-marathon. The project, which was launched right after hostilities with Russia broke out in February 2022, has dominated television news broadcasts since.
Addressing the report, Culture Minister Nikolay Tochitsky said Kiev “plans to end the support of the marathon once martial law is over.” He added that his department’s goal is to “create a broad space for truth and freedom of speech.”
The Ukrainian presidential office and the Culture Ministry are widely understood to be in control of the marathon’s editorial policy, even though the programming is mostly produced by private media holdings, the BBC reported in September 2022. Deutsche Welle said this week that United News was supposed to be an emergency measure but had morphed into a questionable permanent fixture of the Ukrainian media landscape.

This year, Kiev poured some $17 million into the project, with spending expected at the same level next year. The public broadcaster Suspilne, which receives its own funding from the state budget, withdrew from the marathon in May.
The EU’s report hailed that decision, saying it provides “more autonomy for Suspilne.” It also urged a reassessment of whether the marathon “is the best platform for enabling a free exchange of views among Ukrainians.”
According to domestic opinion polls, public trust in United News and consumption of its content have been dropping. The polling agency Rating reported on Monday that just 21% of Ukrainians call it their primary source of news, behind Telegram (47%) and YouTube channels (26%).
Brussels also said that the main objective of the official TV channel of the Ukrainian parliament “should be to share information on parliamentary business, including the work of representatives of the parliamentary opposition.”
Rada TV, the outlet in question, is a United News contributor. According to the watchdog Detector Media, it overwhelmingly prefers showcasing MPs from the ruling ‘Servant of the People’ party to members of the opposition, an approach similar to the one taken by the private companies participating in the marathon.

Brussels urged Kiev to “continue its efforts to maintain and gradually restore a transparent, pluralistic and independent media landscape,” but justified the current situation by security considerations.

During a recent, failed cross border raid into Bryansk Oblast, a team of Ukrainian special forces were seemingly engaged and wiped out to a man by Russian forces.

It also appears that numerous members of this group were American nationals, including recently discharged members of the US marine corps and US army rangers, I have held off discussing it till more information came to light, but it is now pretty compelling that this is indeed the case

Kiev’s failures make West doubt use of further aid – BBC

Ukraine’s inability to defeat Russia on the battlefield has fueled debate in the US about the point of sending more money to Kiev, according to British state broadcaster the BBC.
The conflict is “increasingly going Russia’s way” and the realization of Ukraine's stated territorial objectives is “looking less and less likely,” according to an article by the broadcaster's correspondent in the country.
In a report from the city of Zaporozhye and the nearby front line about opinions on the US presidential election,Ukrainian troops told the BBC's correspondent they hoped that whoever wins would continue militarily supporting Kiev’.
“We’ll fight with what we have, but everyone knows Ukraine can’t do it on its own,” said one soldier, identified only as Andrey.
Kiev’s 2023 offensive resulted in “little to no progress” and the country has since “switched to survival,” the broadcaster said. “It’s this lack of battlefield progress that has made the merits of supporting Ukrainian troops like [Andrey] increasingly up for debate across the Atlantic.”

Some of the civilians the BBC spoke with in Pokrovsk (also known as Krasnoarmeysk), a city in the Donetsk People’s Republic under Ukrainian control, said that Kiev made a mistake by not negotiating in the first months of the conflict.
According to the British outlet, Ukraine called off the talks after “evidence of alleged Russian war crimes.” Multiple officials in Kiev have admitted, however, that the talks were scuttled at the insistence of Boris Johnson, the British prime minister at the time, who told the Ukrainians the West was not willing to make peace with Russia.
Former US president and current Republican candidate, Donald Trump, has promised to quickly end the conflict by negotiating with Moscow. His running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, has opposed any more military aid to Ukraine.
Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ presidential nominee, has not articulated a specific policy on Ukraine. According to the BBC, she has “suggested” military aid would continue under her administration. Should Republicans get a majority in Congress, however, approving additional funds for Kiev would become increasingly difficult. So far, the US has approved over $180 billion in aid, of which around $64 billion has been for weapons, equipment, and ammunition.

As I look around the different forums I note that most people have lost interest in this joke war, apart form one retard who is continually posting Twatter links to unknown and irrelevant gobshites still claiming that Ukraine will be victorious 'within two weeks' or something.
That retard is 'Dame Enda' on politics.ie.
I think it's fairly obvious at this stage that is the same Kangalese retard who posted here for over 2 years telling us the same thing.
