Declan I'm out, mate. Not because of this anti-Trump post, you can have your opinions on Trump and while I disagree with them, you're entitled to them, and it isn't a dealbreaker for me. I can't imagine anything worse than living in a world where everybody agreed with everybody on everything all the time. Sounds like a living death.

But when you have Val threatening to ban people because they're using standard-English terms he doesn't agree with, yeah, I'm done. I won't endure despotic madness. Languages are fluid, old words fade, new ones emerge. There are particular areas of life where meaning and intent have to be nailed down, medicine and law being two. Outside of its professional use the English language is in constant flux and one must be careful of attributing a rigidly defined meaning to a casual description of an understood state.

Neocon is a particular case in point. It indicates a certain mindset, one that is aggressive, arrogant, unethical and displaying the attributes of what was considered the right wing of the political spectrum. We may not like the word but that does not mean to say it lacks meaning or does not convey a convenient description of character. To my mind it is a very useful word that immedietly conjures up an image despite it being a somewhat vague term.

TBH it's all gone a bit quiet on the eastern front. Zelensky is sending the men of Ukraine to be slaughtered and Wagner is duly undertaking the wretched task. Not much else is going to happen until either the Ukrainians run out of cannon fodder or the Russians feel they can advance with impunity.
