Russia has gotten good milage out of the mercenary army. The next stage if it ever begins will be where the Russian army will wipe out whatever the ukes have been able to cobble together. Time is on Russias side as everyone in the ukraine state apparatus must be paid by the US and that sprigot is likely to be shut off soon. So at best, we have a replay of the battle of the bulge
 
I saw a postmistress getting pissed off with a Ukrainian the other day, she shouted, "Didn't I Tell you yesterday,only one free parcel to Ukraine a week" the Ukrainian then left with the parcel they wanted to send, a big box about the size of an old fashioned CRT television box.

A scoot round the usual YT channels covering the conflict suggests that the battle has stepped up a gear today with Zelensky committing a surprising amout of resources to defending such a 'poxy' city.

Both sides have had a tendency to play the numbers game, but yes estimates are still at the least 7 Ukrainians to 1 Russian. And that's conservative. The figure accidentally dropped by a Ukrainian commander a month or two ago was 9 Ukrainians to 1 Russian.

Picking over the various reports it appears that the great split between Wagner and Putin was theatre which had the effect of luring more Ukrainians into the what's left of the meat grinder. That meat grinder then became a furnace of shells and incendiary devices, courtesy of Russia, killing an unknown number of Ukrainians. In response, the head of the Ukrainian military intelligence fumed about killing Russians all over the globe, a straight declaration of terrorism that has yet to be condemned by the west.

Meanwhile, there is still plenty of waffle about the great spring offensive as if nothing had extraordinary had happened, but I rather think it has.
