What's the reason they don't believe the Science that the World is hundreds of millions of years old yet they do believe it regarding the shape of the Earth?

The answer must be that they've got a book who's contents they've decided to literally believe first and then after that fact decided to try and twist every kind of logic and Science - no matter how far fetched - to corroborate their initial decision, ie, to unquestionably believe what's in that book.

The flat earth doesn't arise in that book therefore they don't need to debunk it and will happily accept the reality on this occasion.

As you've mentioned, I'm from a broken home, so my father wasn't that much of an influence (nor was he an atheist as you imagine atheists to be), I just realised, as a child, that religion was man-invented (and not an accurate prescription for God)
