Until the unelected idiocracy are removed from all levers of policymaking.
Nothing will change.
IF the EU is to remain.
It's got to revert to the original mission.
Cheap good food.
Free trade and fair standard's between members.
Everything else is up to the nation states.
No more bullying and coercion of small nations as is happening nowadays.

Agree 101%, but how do we get from where we are now to that utopia?

Industry and commerce have, up until now, usually lobbied for influence in framing EU legislation, but here are 48 movers and shakers seeking to not just swing it in their favour but abolish large parts of it altogether, that is probably a first and is a sign of hope that the EU may be losing its stranglehold.

Naturally they will be dismissed as far right agitators because that is all the sissy boys of the EU can do, yet it is a clear indication that its not just us peasants who are fed up with Fond of Lying and her crew.

The European Central Bank telling us what we all knew, cash is king, but will the Irish government listen to what the people want and that is higher denomination notes as they have on the continent, or will it carry on in this mindless pursuit of trying to do away with cash altogether by ensuring we have to push wheelbarrows of the stuff around as inflation eats away at its value?

I also get the distinct impression that the EU bank was instructed to get a few digs in at Russia while compiling that report.

His remarks on the state of the EU leadership echo much of what has been said here, and he to is uncertain as to whether politicians have naturally dumbed down or whether it is a deliberate policy implemented by a higher power structure. I'm never convinced by very grand and very clever and precise plans being executed by a super intelligent elite, I think, like Mahbubani, it is more a case of cultivating the ground and setting the right conditions for situations to arise rather than a blueprint being ruthlessly imposed upon the world.
 
Remove the influence of American Jews who speculate on European finance & you'll begin to solve the problem.

An interesting take on the Russian gas position is that the two main fields that supplied the west were the Urengoy and Yamburg fields which have basically reached the end of their lives.

This means that cheap Russian gas was going to come to an end anyway and the Ukraine war has simply given a face saving excuse to scramble around for an alternative, rather than Western governments having to admit they bet the house on one short term supplier.

Russia does have more gas, but further to the east from where it is easier to supply China et al.

I'd like to hear that confirmed from Russia sources.
There was no issues mentioned pre smo with supplies.
And there would have been plenty of funds to resolve supply issues.
Why build NS2?
That said to supply western Europe for over half a century was a heck of a field.
Now that brings up an interesting question.
Apply the same thing to the Algerian fields supplying southern Europe.
What's left there?
And to the US gas fields shale formations.
The Germans environmental bed shitting wry their npps was a ridiculous and fatal economic decision.

It was a fellow on Linkedin I follow who is involved in the gas industry who alerted me to it, so I checked it out on Wikipedia (yes, I know...) and it seems a little out of date, but for what it's worth its here -

The Urengoyskoye conventional gas field has over ten trillion cubic meters (1013 m3) in total deposits.[1] It recovered by the end of 2021 more than 90% of its reserves. As of 2021, its output was six times lower than at its peak from 1985 to 1996

Then again why build NS2 ?
Plus as we think about it why did the US dedtroy Same.
Syria was destroyed because Assad wouldn't have a gas line from the gulf as he felt he wasn't getting a good deal.
Must be a bit of gas left there you would think.

All good points, but were there plans to connect other pipelines to NS2? If it had still been in place the investment involved in bringing the eastern gas to the pipeline head on the old fields might have made it worthwhile. With Nordstream gone it is probably cheaper to send it to China, and China is probably throwing a tenner or two at it to help things along.

Think Europe still isn't finished shooting itself in the feet or balls energy wise
You would think that other fields had been identified.
Remember that the Russians like long term contracts and wanted to continue.
The Poles some time ago were whinging because they wanted global spot prices which were lower at the time than the Russians contract prices were.
How times and circumstances change.

Been away for a couple of days and was chatting to a fellow who has a little experience of the relationship between China and Russia, apparently it is not as cosy as we are sometimes led to believe and trading between them is not straightforward, or even possible at times.
 
I suspect the chinese will betray russia. It would be the smart moveto get the us and russia to battle it out
