Professor O’Neill was then quizzed on people’s hesitancy following news of this link of blood clots.
‘That was a huge reason not to do this [suspend AstraZeneca vaccines] because of previous sitations,’ he responded.
‘We know, for example, the HPV vaccine was stalled in Japan. When they reintroduced it, nobody would take it.’
Professor O’Neill quoted a survey in which 38% of people
are now ‘anxious about this vaccine, so that’s the downside’.
He then suggested a large campaign around the reintroduction of the AstraZeneca vaccine ‘to remind people this is a very efficacious vaccine’.
