i remember the last fuel crisis -- we went to our local garda station and reported we were going to use the home heating diesel for the buses -- i got a warm smile and was told nobody is dipping today nobody is dipping tomorrow .
i nodded and left but had i been hauled up i had something to say and i now had evidence there was no crime as when you read the print it states you must DECLARE its use .
if you can get a 1200 lt of tractor diesel which is only 4 barrels in a trailer which will take 6 easy .
a plastic syphon pump will do to fill as many vehicles as you have and you simply drive alongside and start the syphon and sit and wait for it to fill .
your barrel of diesel must be higher than the vehicles tank .
if you have a forklift you will have 4 barrels on a pallet and you will do the job without any drama.

Opposition style democracy cannot function if those standing for election have no intention of representing those whose vote they seek.

There were never any great differences between FF and FG anyway, but covid cemented their relationship as they came to realise that it was a far easier life to just let outside agencies make the decisions and take the money while fixing a few potholes.
 
I wonder how far the fuel crisis across the board is designed to promote the usage and sale of EV cars?

Given their smart features they can be controlled centrally and therefore the movement of the population will be at the whim of the government

Normies will be sooner to avoid ICE cars for their next purchase after this.

There'll be no lorries and tractors to take to blockades if the government can get them demobilized.
 
There is, apparently, a surge in EV sales since the war started and I have been thinking that it will be an excuse to push them even more. However, we do not have the generating capacity or distribution infrastructure to cope with a big switch, especially when there is the competition with big tech for electrical supply.

Tractors and lorries will never switch to battery power except in a few exceptional cases, batteries simply do not have the power density of carbon fuels.

The government might like to think so but as has been discussed on here that moving vehicles is not the simple task of turning the key and driving them off that it once was.

I had an interesting conversation with a white hat hacker a while back who explained how he and some friends had broken into the databases of the major car companies and they could, he claimed, have done all sorts of mischief like report your car as stolen or not even paid for, let alone interfere with the service records. Some, but not all could be remotely disabled as well.

This guy, BTW, had made his name in hacking a John Deere system to introduce a computer game on to the screen, much to the company's embarrassment.

What is the oldest year that they have this tech? I know all your 20's do. .
 
Plenty of fuel in north Leitrim and more expected this evening or tomorrow. Presumably it is straightforward to bring in fuel from Norn Iron?

Guys should stop the blockade and switch to protest outside politicians' houses, council offices, etc. No point going through the hassle of getting your machinery towed away. And once they are no longer blockading fuel depots, the gracious government will release their plans.

Definitely the state has encouraged and facilitated these protests - until now. Now it's pepper spray time.

Prayers for everybody's safety :)

I don't know for sure and manufacturers will have adopted the electronics at different rates, but anything within the last ten, maybe fifteen, years is likely to be vulnerable.

EVs would be the best vehicles to blockade with as they can't be towed away without severe damage being done to them, they have to be lifted and carried.

The place I got mine is an independent heating oil distributor who sells diesel from his yard. He is reported as having got two tanker loads in on Thursday although I am not sure where from, probably the north. He has a sound reputation locally so I'm not over worried about it being bleached agri diesel, but it shows that there is some fuel out there.

My sentiments entirely. Reading the headlines this morning we have a sudden and unanimous switch in emphasis, just like the covid/Ukraine event.
 
I heard a story that the windows in some EVs are unbreakable, even in an emergency. You could take a hammer or a rock to them and it won't break. Can that be true???

Absolutely. Folk have burnt to death in those contraptions. Even regular car window glass is hard to break though, do have a special glass breaker to hand in the car, buy 'em for nothing at Halfords or somesuch.
