If Russia is to become Ukraine's suzerain (as was the case with Finland during the Cold War), laying waste to major cities and having civilian bodies pile up will neither foster good will nor will the optics be good. That's why he's been pulling punches.

Midwit Ukrainians need first to turn a deaf ear to Zelensky because he's a clown and an American toady who takes all cues from the State Dept. and spooks. They'll realize they were duped and that Zelensky doesn't give a Tinker's damn about the real possibilty of Kiev and other large cities being turned into facsimiles of Grozny.

I have watched this one. Reaction to the Ukraine crisis is being run by ignorance and emotion. One third of the worlds food supply
could be cut off.

Getting decent reporting on the situation is next to impossible. Hopefully by weekend the picture will be more clear.

He is not saying the east must fall. He is saying that hopes of good relations between east and west have been crushed and
will be replaced by peaceful co-existence , In other words a cold frosty relationship in which the west will shrink industrially while
the east will boom.

would have to endure and eventually what Russia and China would have to endure had it worked.

I see it reported that Bellorussia have joined the war(i thought they had already) and are to invade tonight.

That should see the circle joined around Kiev and at best, a siege begin.

At worst they will pulverize the city.

Until Zelensky is caught, disposed of and replaced with someone who has half a brain, they'll keep on fighting. Americans and NATO have totally underestimated the resolve and intestinal fortitude of the Russkis at the expense of the Ukrainian people, their cities and infrastructure.

They are both tougher than the west predicted it seems.

It is looking that the Russians now are grinding them down.

I would question the resolve of the foreign fighters. It will not be like Iraq etc for the contractors where they were well supplied and had total air superiority.
The Syrians on the other hand will probably be more enduring.

I wonder what the situation is in Syria also but certainly Assad owes Putin big time.
