I think another part of it is that Russia being at war with Ukraine bogs Russia down and the US only has to worry about China. An Ex-CIA guy I saw an interview with recently was talking about this. He also said that consistent wars are necessary to field-test new kit and that the US has actually learned through the conflict that a lot of the kit they thought would be great is actually worthless in the field.

I was talking about something similar to the bloke who does my Earthworks here recently. He was telling that the price of excavators has skyrocketed in Australia the last three years, and that a lot of operators are finding themselves in negative equity after a three-year business cycle because that's about the mark they start to shit the bed. After paying the interest, repairs, fuel and transport etc they either break even or lose out, but the week-to week earnings keep them treading water.
