1st of June and the cloud canopy rolled back to reveal a sunny blue sky (a rare thing in the last 2 weeks) but today the dimming canopy is back - Even with yesterday's sun in June it was cool in the NW as it is today. Cool & Dim.
. . . .June 1 is the first day of the meteorological summer and people all over Ireland have been dreaming of a mini-heatwave and warm hazy sunshine lasting for several days if not weeks.
Sadly, it looks like June is set to disappoint with Met Eireann even warning of the potential for "spot flooding" in certain parts of the country.
In its latest extended range forecast update, Met Eireann, says people should expect part of June to be
"unsettled".
Concerning Monday June 17 to Sunday June 23 Met Eireann says: "Low pressure is indicated to dominate for week three,
allowing more unsettled conditions to develop. Temperatures will likely be around average in the north and northwest and coastal counties of the east and south, however elsewhere
temperatures are likely to be slightly
below average.
Above average rainfall is expected, which may lead to some spot flooding."
The first two weeks of June will see average temperatures for the south and east of Ireland but
everywhere else "will be cooler than average" the state forecaster declared.
Met Eireann added: "Low pressure is signalled to influence our weather for week two. Temperatures will likely be around average in many areas,
but parts of the midlands and southwest and west are likely to see slightly below average temperatures. Rainfall is signalled to be above average countrywide, which may lead to some spot flooding."
Meanwhile, the much anticipated bank holiday weather forecast looked promising earlier this week but according to Met Eireann,
cloud cover looks likely to spoil the party.
It was hoped that Sunday and Monday would bring end-to-end sunshine with temperatures predicted to hit 22°C however
a concentrated band of cloud cover looks set to be the thorn in Ireland's side over the coming days.
Met Eireann says
the frustrating cloud cover looks set to continue into Tuesday as well.
"Starting off mostly cloudy on Tuesday with some light rain or drizzle spreading eastwards. Brightening up from the northwest with a few showers following. Highest temperatures 14°C to 18°C with moderate to fresh northwest winds.
"Wednesday will be
a cool, breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures 11°C to 15°C with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.
"Thursday is going to be
another cool, showery day, with sunny spells. Light to moderate westerly winds, with highest temperatures 11°C to 16°C."
