Depends what words you use. I'd say consciousness definitely exists after your mortal remains are eaten by maggots or burned in the oven.

What it is exactly I cannot say. Where does it go? Does it manifest into another life? Etc etc. Man does not know the answer to these things although there are some "enlightened" people who surely get a glimpse of it.

Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.
