There was an accident on board, an evacuation, the boat was still afloat and was headed for a port for inspection. It was decided that it would cost too much to fix and there's a new flagship being built. I'd imagine anything that needed to be unloaded that could be was and it was sank.
It costs money to move something that big and they didn't want it getting into the hands of the enemy.
The captain was at a ceremony in Sevastapol after the ship sank.

The Russian strategy is and has always been to wear opponents down over time, move forward and destroy. They play the long game and are known for this if you look at tactics in other places. All going according to plan. Russia produces their own weapons and have unlimited stocks.
While the West runs out of weapons and money to send to Ukraine. Most of which is being picked off or abandoned by retreating Ukrainian soldiers.

Germany, Austria and others are cancelling their ban on Russian oil, or trying to step away from it by the looks of it because they now realise the consequences of their emotionally reactive knee jerking.
Didn't Russia agree to leave Kiev and Chernigov as part of an agreement made in Turkey with Ukrainian officials?
They regrouped and sent troops to Donbass before Kiev started hitting Belgorod in Russia. Then more missiles took out weapons storage facilities in and around Kiev.

The thing is that it has been genuinely well meaning but painfully naive in terms of politics and the wider world people who have been taking in Galicans and various people from the third world who were "studying" there in diploma mills (degrees in medicine and engineering are not accepted in most Middle Eastern and an increasing number of African ones) who now think they are on their way to a "First World" passport having arrived in Ireland as "refugees from the Ukraine" (they could be right). I have talked two families out of putting up "Ukrainian refugees" and I have no shame about that. The below is mild compared to some stories that have been coming back to me;

The men that came had to pay 5-20k at the border to be let out. Now they can't go back or they're either going to prison or they'll be shot.
There's about 4 million entitled liberal Ukrainians after descending on Europe because of their delusions that life is better here and they're causing murders when they find out it's not.

I know that and you know that but the government and a lot of the population are oblivious to this- these are a stock that the Tsars, the Poles and the Soviets could not put a sense of law and order on so realistically no one Irish has a hope of doing so. I have a friend from the Holy Land who grew up in a tough "development town" there, and her people, North African Jews ruled the roost until the early 1990s (before she was born) when the Ukrainians arrived in the place and they quickly out savaged the North Africans and made everyone's life pretty miserable since than. We also have now a large enough population of West Coast Africans who other Africans consider nastily aggressive, sly and problematic generally- put them together with Ukrainians who are in general much more racist than anything you would find on the "Far Right" here and you are looking at an explosion of savagery. They will be hacking each to bits and indigenous Irish will be caught in the cross fire.

Hungary is in the EU but it got around sanctioning the Russian Federation so it's gas and electricity are not sky rocketing. We could have pleaded our neutral status and done the same quietly. However the regime decided to virtue signal.

I think that Putin should have sent in the tanks in after the overthrow of the democratically elected government back in 2014 and was critical of him for not doing so. What the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was the bio-weapons labs that the US had set up in the Ukraine and that Victoria Nuland admitted that the US had in front of Congress even though people like owedtojoy claim that is fake news. A Professor in Cork what a brilliant article on this which I will see if I can find again. If you trust "The Irish Times" and RTE though you would think that the war is about "Gay Rights" or something like that.

I am not the biggest fan of Putin by any standards at all however there is no denying that he massively cut back on corruption in the Russian Federation, massively, and greatly improved the place which might be said to be damning with faint praise given the utter mess he inherited from Yeltsin. Yes he could of done better but that is not to take away his achievements.

The Russian Ukrainians in Eastern Ukraine, Kherson and Odessa have taken the Russian Rouble as their currency and will be absorbed into the Russian Federation after a vote if they choose they want to. So they think it better to re-join Russia than be part of Ukraine.
