Looking at the reports so far and bearing in mind the lack of information/possible misinformation I wonder if the Ukrainian plan is something like this.
In the west try to advance along the dnipro River keeping it at your right side as you move to protect against flanking attacks. Whilst doing this engage with another attack slightly east to hold the Russians and possibly even get a pincer going. This seems to be the toughest nut at the moment but has started to show cracks and advances are now being made.
In the east and just below Donetsk city the Ukrainians seem to have had an easier time of it and are making fairly rapid progress south with reports of lines crumbling on contact in places.
If they succeed in both fronts then Russia has a major problem as the territory either side becomes surrounded from mariopol down to melitopol. In order to prevent that Russian forces would need to withdraw backwards towards the azov sea but that would mean abandoning the defensive lines they spent a year building.
If one of those fronts isn't successful for Ukraine then all Ukraine need to do is hold the line and push the successful front down to the azov sea which will effectively cut off crimea (and everything west of that line) from Russia.
In an interesting alternative the attack in the east could also pivot and push east and north to Donetsk city itself and surround it as the Ukrainians seem to be fixing Russians at Bakhmut still.
Obviously I could be totally wrong and tomorrow Ukriane launches an all out attack on bloody vladavostok via the North Pole tunnel they dug or something but that's what I'm seeing for now.
