Lineker will be "spoken to" by BBC after Nazi comparison

Gary Lineker branded the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman's, policy on illegal immigration as an "immeasurably cruel policy that's directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s".

Braverman responded "Equating our measures - which are lawful, necessary and fundamentally compassionate - to 1930s Germany is irresponsible and I disagree with that characterisation."

Asked if the Match Of The Day presenter should resign or be sacked, she said: "That's a matter for the BBC and they will resolve that."

She invited Lineker to visit England's ports to "see what the communities in Kent and Dover and actually all around the UK are feeling about this issue".

A BBC source told the Press Association news agency that the corporation is taking the matter of Lineker's initial tweets "seriously" and expects to have a "frank conversation" with the 62-year-old former England striker.

Impartiality is one of the core principles of the BBC.
Why are you both laughing at? Sure, BBC reporters, broadcasters etc might not always report impartially but one of their highest paid presenters comparing the government to Nazis is obviously going to be an issue they have to deal with.

He is a sports commentator- commenting on political stuff in his spare time hardly prevents him from being impartial in his sports reporting, does it? Also BBC journalists in the past have expressed their political views publicly on various topics and that was not seen as damaging impartiality. You seem to be of the opinion that people agree when taking a job at the BBC to wipe from their souls all political opinions.

It doesn't matter if he's a sports commentator. He still has a responsibility not to air his own political views. The BBC is publicly funded and presenters know before they sign up. Andrew Neil was a great broadcaster because he grilled politicians equally, whether they were conservative or Labour or whatever.

And anyway, Lineker is a brain-dead gobshite, just hopping on whatever trendy left wing shite will get him likes on twatter.
